Hybrid inverters are also able to store electricity from the grid in a battery and use that stored energy when the solar panels don't generate enough power. Hybrid inverters are a good choice for people looking for a way to integrate their solar power system with their existing power grid.
From small residential installations to larger, industrial applications, Victron's products can handle it all. Their products are considered to be some of the best inverters made in the Netherlands. Headquartered in Groenlo, Nedap has been a significant player in the Netherlands' solar industry.
A hybrid inverter is a device that converts the direct current (DC) generated by solar panels into alternating current (AC) used by electrical appliances in households. Hybrid inverters are also able to store electricity from the grid in a battery and use that stored energy when the solar panels don't generate enough power.
Backup power: Hybrid inverters can provide backup power in the event of a power failure by using the power stored in the battery. Flexibility: Hybrid inverters are more flexible than traditional inverters because they can be used with a wide range of solar power systems.
To achieve its renewable energy targets, reports in 2021 indicate that the Netherlands will need to install between 29 and 54 gigawatts (GW) of energy storage capacity by 2050. Storage with efficient management systems and digital controls is a crucial element of a reliable, flexible and affordable energy system.
No specific laws & regulations: In the Netherlands, energy storage is not described in Dutch laws and regulations as a specific item. Standard requirements: It has to meet standard requirements for production and consumption and some specific technologies that are part of the energy storage system must comply with standardisation.
The growth of renewable energy generation in the Netherlands and across Europe has played a vital role in decarbonising energy production. The uptick in renewable energy adoption has also prompted the need for energy storage to help stabilise the power grid during moments of excess energy generated by these cleaner alternatives.
15.7.2025 EP NL and Eneco are realising a large-scale battery project at Enecogen's Europoort power plant, in which both parties hold a 50% stake. The battery will have a connection capacity of 50 MW and an energy storage capacity of 200 MWh, enabling it to supply electricity for four hours.
The storage project will make use of the plant's existing grid connection. But while making the announcement, the two companies were vocal about costly obstacles in the Netherlands for batteries. Eneco and EP NL have announced a joint investment in a 50 MW / 200 MWh battery storage project at the Enecogen power plant in the port of Rotterdam.
Enecogen will handle the battery's maintenance and operations, while the trading departments of EP NL and Eneco will control its deployment. No financial details were announced. In the announcement, the companies noted that battery development in the Netherlands lags behind other European countries, citing grid fees as a primary obstacle.
This will provide more flexibility for the Dutch electricity system when the battery is put into operation in 2027. Battery storage enables electricity to be stored when there is more available than is needed, for example when a lot of solar and wind energy is generated.
